The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Plant Science and Agronomy Scientists in Colombia Ranking is primarily derived from extensive bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other reputable data repositories. These sources provide comprehensive and up-to-date information on publications, citations, and author profiles, enabling a robust basis for evaluating scientific impact. The bibliometric data used to calculate citation-based metrics were collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring that the ranking reflects the most current research output and influence.
A scientist’s position within this ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized variant of the H-index that considers only papers and citations relevant to Plant Science and Agronomy. This tailored metric ensures that the ranking accurately reflects contributions within the examined discipline rather than general scholarly impact across all fields.
Scope and Qualification Criteria
The ranking process began with the examination of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a variety of integrated bibliometric data sources, spanning all scientific disciplines. Among these, 11 scientists specializing specifically in Plant Science and Agronomy were rigorously evaluated for inclusion in the ranking.
To qualify for the ranking, each researcher was required to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 30, ensuring a high standard of scholarly impact within the discipline. Additionally, a majority of their tier publications needed to be directly related to Plant Science and Agronomy. Beyond bibliometric data, scientists’ awards and achievements within the field were also considered to contextualize and validate their standing.
The D-index threshold is dynamically calibrated as increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of active scholars in each discipline. This approach guarantees the inclusion of the top 1% of leading researchers, maintaining both rigor and representativeness. Furthermore, to ensure disciplinary focus, the proximity between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index must be 30% or less, which underscores the alignment of their broader research impact with their disciplinary contributions.

This process involves cross-correlating author records with publications indexed in a wide array of trustworthy sources, thereby enhancing the reliability and authenticity of the ranking.
While the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings is not directly factored into the calculated ranking position, it remains a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s influence and contribution within Plant Science and Agronomy.
