The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Microbiology Scientists in Uganda Ranking is founded on comprehensive bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable databases to ensure robust coverage. The citation-based metrics used to devise the ranking were extracted and compiled on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined bibliometric indicator that considers only the publications and citation metrics specifically within the examined discipline of Microbiology. This focus on discipline-specific performance allows for a precise evaluation of a researcher’s impact in their specialized area.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
The ranking methodology involved examining 187,659 scientist profiles aggregated from diverse bibliometric data sources across all scientific disciplines. Within this pool, 4 scientists specializing specifically in Microbiology were identified and assessed. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist must possess a D-index of at least 40, reflecting a substantial and sustained impact within the discipline. Furthermore, a majority of the scientist’s tier publications—those contributing significantly to their citation metrics—must be concentrated in the area of Microbiology. Beyond bibliometric thresholds, consideration was also given to notable awards and achievements that demonstrate meaningful contributions to the field.
The threshold for D-index consideration is adaptively set in increments of 10, depending on the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline. This ensures that approximately the top 1% of leading scholars, gauged by disciplinary impact, are incorporated into the ranking. Additionally, a proximity criterion requires that the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index remain within 30%, ensuring the discipline-specific metric accurately reflects their expertise relative to their broader research output.

Recognizing the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data as an absolute evaluative tool, the Research.com team adopts rigorous manual verification procedures. Each scientist profile is cross-correlated extensively with publications listed in a wide array of trustworthy scholarly sources, thus enhancing the accuracy and credibility of the ranking. Although not directly affecting rank placement, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings is acknowledged as a valuable secondary metric reflecting a scientist’s research contributions within Microbiology.
