Data Sources and Methodology
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Microbiology Scientists in Singapore Ranking is founded on robust bibliometric data aggregated primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data sources. Bibliometric data utilized to compute citation-based metrics were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026. To ensure discipline-specific relevance, a scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric exclusively calculated from publications and citation data pertinent to the examined discipline of Microbiology.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
This ranking comprehensively examines a total of 187,659 scientist profiles spanning all disciplines, among which 18 researchers specializing in Microbiology were identified and evaluated. Qualification for inclusion in the ranking mandates that a scientist’s D-index meets or exceeds the threshold of 40, with the majority of their tier publications belonging specifically to the field of Microbiology. Additionally, recognized awards and achievements in Microbiology contribute to the evaluation process.
The D-index threshold for top researchers is established in increments of 10 according to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, ensuring representation of the top 1% of leading experts. Furthermore, to guarantee a close alignment between general research impact and discipline-specific influence, a maximum proximity of 30% difference is maintained between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index.
Verification and Cross-Validation Processes
Recognizing that raw citation data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the Research.com team undertakes rigorous manual verification of all scientist profiles. Each profile is cross-correlated against publications indexed in a broad array of trustworthy academic sources to affirm accuracy and relevance.
While the number of papers published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to their field. Ranking determinations are anchored in the D-index derived from information curated via OpenAlex and CrossRef, acknowledged as leading and reliable bibliometric databases within the academic community.
