A key component in determining a scientist’s position within the ranking is the researcher’s D-index (Discipline H-index). This metric refines the conventional H-index by including only papers and citation metrics directly associated with the examined discipline—in this case, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. This ensures a focused and accurate reflection of each researcher’s impact within their specific field.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking analysis encompassed a broad examination of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a diverse array of bibliometric data sources across all scientific disciplines. Within the scope of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering specifically, 3,000 scientists were carefully evaluated.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index needed to be at least 30. While the position in the ranking is primarily established through the D-index calculated from OpenAlex and CrossRef data, the volume of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings was also evaluated as a valuable secondary signal of a scientist’s research contribution within the field.
