Data Sources and Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Law Scientists in Netherlands Ranking is underpinned primarily by bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple additional reputable data sources. These comprehensive data repositories serve as the foundation for devising citation-based metrics, which were meticulously gathered on January 12, 2026. The ranking position of each scientist is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined bibliometric indicator that exclusively incorporates publication and citation data relevant to the specific discipline under examination, thereby ensuring a precise measure of impact within the field of Law.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
The scope of the ranking encompasses an extensive evaluation of 279,971 scientist profiles collated from a diverse range of bibliometric databases covering all disciplines. Specifically, 13 scientists specializing in Law were examined for this edition. To qualify for inclusion, researchers were required to have a D-index of at least 20 and a majority of their tier publications concentrated within the domain of Law. Additionally, scientists’ distinguished awards and achievements in the field were factored into consideration, enriching the robustness of the evaluation.
The D-index threshold is dynamically set in increments of 10, calibrated to the estimated total scholarly population within each discipline. This methodological approach ensures that the top 1% of leading scholars are systematically incorporated into the ranking. A further criterion mandates a maximum proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s overall H-index and their discipline-specific D-index, thereby verifying the focus of their research contributions.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data as an absolute evaluative tool, the Research.com team employed stringent manual verification procedures. Each scientist’s profile was rigorously cross-correlated against a wide spectrum of trusted publication records and scholarly sources to bolster accuracy and authenticity. Although not directly influencing the ranking position, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings is acknowledged as a valuable complementary indicator of a scientist’s substantive contribution to specialized research.
The ranking positions are exclusively derived from each researcher’s D-index as computed using data primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most prominent and reliable bibliometric databases accessible to the research community. Interested readers and researchers are encouraged to consult our methodology page for a detailed exposition of the processes and protocols involved in this comprehensive ranking.
