A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined using the D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined measure that incorporates only those papers and citations that fall within the examined discipline of Business and Management. This discipline-specific metric ensures each researcher’s impact is evaluated within the appropriate academic context.
Scope of Research and Ranking Inclusion Criteria
To assemble this ranking, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles were examined across a wide array of bibliometric sources covering all disciplines. Within the Business and Management domain specifically, 2,000 scientists were considered for inclusion.
Eligibility for ranking was restricted to researchers with a D-index of at least 30, ensuring that only scholars with substantial disciplinary impact qualified. Additionally, the majority of tier publications by each candidate had to be demonstrably centered in Business and Management to reflect genuine specialization. Beyond bibliometric criteria, scientists’ awards and notable achievements within the field were also factored into the comprehensive evaluation process.
The threshold for the D-index is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars per discipline. This approach guarantees inclusion of the top 1% of leading researchers within each field. Furthermore, to maintain metric integrity, candidates were required to exhibit a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and their D-index, reinforcing discipline-specific impact as a core ranking parameter.
Additional Verification Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully encapsulate scholarly contribution, the Research.com team undertook meticulous manual verification of all scientist profiles. Each profile was cross-correlated against publications indexed in a broad suite of trustworthy academic databases to ensure accuracy and authenticity.
While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence ranking positions, it remains an important secondary indicator of a researcher’s contribution within their specific scientific area.
The ranking’s positions are firmly established on each researcher’s D-index as computed from data sourced by OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are among the most comprehensive and prestigious bibliometric databases currently available to the scholarly community.
