Overview

The University of Milano-Bicocca is a public university located in the business and academic district of Bicocca in Milan, Italy. Considered as one of the best universities in the country, the University of Milano-Bicocca’s core of studies revolves around scientific research that aims to benefit the community. Among these are research studies in the field of medicine, such as thyroid treatment, nanomedicine, and 3D surgery. The university is also heavily involved in sustainability projects through the Bicocca Environment Society Economy (BASE). BASE is the governing body that takes the lead in proposing, coordinating, and implementing sustainability plans for the University of Milano-Bicocca and the whole city of Bicocca.

As a research-intensive institution, the University of Milano-Bicocca has more than 30 research centers that utilize a cross-disciplinary approach to conducting in-depth investigation across a broad range of cultural and scientific areas of study. One of these research centers is the Bicocca Training and Development Centre, which centers on the analyses of organizational development and training as well as strategic approaches to human resource management. Other research centers are dedicated to studies in digestive health, European culture, social change, neurosciences, applied psychology, and more.

When it comes to undergraduate academic programs, the University of Milano-Bicocca specializes in a wide range of fields of studies such as law, economics and statistical sciences, medicine and surgery, sociology, psychology, and educational sciences. The majority of courses are taught in Italian, but there are also courses that are available in English, including economics, law, psychology, science, and medicine. Postgraduate education extends to professionals who are after specialization training. Under the Healthcare Specialization School program, medical professionals can pursue further training in clinical services, surgical procedures, and internal and psychiatric medicine. Specialization training for professionals working in the area of psychology is also offered. For international students, the University of Milano-Bicocca offers master’s degree programs in applied experimental psychological sciences, international economics, marine sciences, materials science, marketing and global markets, and medicine and surgery.

The University of Milano-Bicocca has come a long way since its establishment in 1998 when an old factory in Bicocca was transformed into a state-of-the-art complex dedicated to innovative academic research. Originally part of the University of Milan, the University of Milano-Bicocca became an independent institution via a Ministerial Decree. Since its establishment, the university has also turned into the hub of events that celebrate cultural and artistic talents not only in Bicocca but in the whole of Milan.
