Data Sources and Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Social Sciences and Humanities Scientists in Pakistan Ranking is rooted in a comprehensive foundation of bibliometric data primarily derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other authoritative data sources. Bibliometric data used to devise the citation-based metrics underlying this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. The ranking positions are determined by a researcher’s D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that considers only the papers and citation metrics pertinent to the specific discipline under examination, ensuring more precise and relevant evaluation within the Social Sciences and Humanities.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
A total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from diverse bibliometric databases across all disciplines were initially examined, including 2,000 scientists specializing in Social Sciences and Humanities. To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, a scientist must have a D-index of at least 30. Additionally, the majority of their tier publications must be concentrated within the Social Sciences and Humanities. Awards and achievements recognized in this field were also incorporated as supplementary evaluation factors. The D-index threshold is calibrated in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars per discipline, while ensuring that the top 1% of leading experts in the field are included in the list. Moreover, a proximity criterion is applied whereby the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, emphasizing discipline-specific impact.
Verification Practices and Methodological Transparency
The researchers behind this ranking acknowledge that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output. Therefore, all scientist profiles were subjected to rigorous manual verification and cross-correlation against publications indexed in a broad spectrum of trustworthy sources. Although not directly influencing ranking position, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings provides a valuable secondary signal of a researcher’s contribution within their specific scientific domain.
Positions in this ranking are established using each researcher’s D-index calculated from information gathered predominantly from OpenAlex and CrossRef, the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
