A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined bibliometric indicator that considers only those publications and citation counts specifically related to the examined discipline of Psychology. This discipline-focused approach offers a more precise assessment of research excellence within the specialized field, allowing fair comparison among peers actively contributing to Psychology.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
The ranking evaluates a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a diverse array of bibliometric data sources spanning all academic disciplines. Specifically, within the domain of Psychology, 116 scientist profiles were carefully examined to identify leading researchers in Norway.
To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, a scientist’s D-index must be at least 30. Additionally, the majority of their high-impact (tier) publications are required to be anchored in the field of Psychology. Beyond bibliometric considerations, a scientist’s awards and notable achievements in Psychology also constitute an important evaluative factor.
The D-index threshold is calibrated in increments of 10 based on the total estimated number of scholars in each discipline, ensuring the ranking rigorously includes the top 1% of leading experts. Another important criterion is the proximity between the general H-index and the discipline-specific D-index; this difference should not exceed 30%, guaranteeing that the researcher’s general citation impact aligns closely with their Psychology-focused contributions.
Additional Verification Practices
The research team acknowledges that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the multifaceted nature of scholarly output and impact. Consequently, every scientist profile included in the ranking was manually verified and cross-referenced against publications documented in a broad range of trustworthy sources. This meticulous approach safeguards against errors and ensures that each profile accurately reflects the scholar’s contributions within Psychology.
Although the number of papers published in prominent journals and influential conference proceedings does not directly determine a researcher’s ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of scientific contribution and leadership within the discipline.
The primary ranking metric—the D-index—is exclusively derived from data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which remain the most prominent and reliable bibliometric repositories accessible to the global research community.
