Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Law Scientists in Qatar Ranking is primarily based on bibliometric data obtained from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data sources. These platforms are widely recognized and respected within the scientific community for their comprehensive coverage and reliability in tracking scholarly publications and citations. The bibliometric data used to derive citation-based metrics for this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist's rank is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), which exclusively accounts for papers and citation metrics within the specific discipline of Law, ensuring a focused and discipline-specific assessment.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
In constructing this ranking, a comprehensive dataset encompassing 279,971 scientist profiles covering all academic disciplines was examined, with a targeted focus on 1 scientist specializing specifically in Law. To qualify for inclusion, each scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 20, with a majority of their tier-level publications centered in the field of Law. Additionally, a scientist’s awards and achievements within Law were taken into account as part of the evaluation process.
The D-index threshold used to consider top researchers is calibrated in increments of 10, correlating with the estimated total population of scholars in each discipline. This method ensures that the top 1% of leading scholars in a given field are incorporated into the ranking. Moreover, to maintain discipline relevance, only those scientists whose general H-index and D-index differ by 30% or less were considered, thereby affirming a close alignment between overall impact and discipline-specific contribution.
Verification Practices
Recognizing that quantitative bibliometric data alone cannot offer a definitive evaluation of a researcher’s contributions, the Research.com team undertook rigorous manual verification of all scientist profiles included in this ranking. Each profile was cross-correlated against publications from a wide array of trusted and authoritative sources to ensure accuracy and validity.
While not directly influencing a researcher's positioning in the ranking, the volume of publications in prominent journals and leading conference proceedings serves as a valuable secondary indicator of scientific contribution within the discipline of Law. The final ranking is established exclusively on each researcher’s D-index, based on data gathered from OpenAlex and CrossRef—among the most prominent bibliometric databases trusted by the academic community worldwide.
