Data Sources and Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Economics and Finance Scientists in Qatar Ranking is grounded in comprehensive bibliometric data obtained primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple other reputable data sources. The citation-based metrics utilized to devise the ranking were collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring the use of up-to-date and robust data. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their Discipline H-index (D-index), a metric that exclusively considers papers and citation metrics pertinent to the examined discipline, thereby providing a discipline-specific evaluation of research impact.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking process involved a thorough examination of 279,971 scientist profiles drawn from a diverse array of bibliometric databases, encompassing all disciplines. Specifically, 1,267 scientists active in the field of Economics and Finance were evaluated. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 30, and the majority of their tier publications were required to be within the Economics and Finance domain. Additionally, awards and notable achievements in Economics and Finance were taken into account as supplementary factors.
The D-index threshold for identifying top researchers is dynamically set in increments of 10, reflecting the total number of scholars estimated in each discipline. This approach guarantees the inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts. Furthermore, the methodology ensures that the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, reinforcing the discipline-specific relevance of the ranking.
Verification Practices and Methodological Rigor
The researchers responsible for this ranking are acutely aware that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output. To address this, all scientist profiles underwent meticulous manual verification and were cross-correlated with publications indexed in a wide range of respected and trustworthy sources. While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly affect the ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution within a given field.
The position within the ranking is firmly established using each researcher’s D-index, derived from information curated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, the most prominent and well-recognized bibliometric databases accessible to the research community today.
