Data Sources and Ranking Metrics
The 12th edition of the Research.com Best Computer Science Scientists in Romania Ranking is grounded in bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple additional reputable data sources. The citation-based metrics used for the ranking were carefully compiled on January 12, 2026. Each scientist's position in the ranking is determined based on their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that isolates citation and publication data strictly within the examined discipline—in this case, Computer Science—ensuring a focused and discipline-specific evaluation of scholarly impact.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
Our comprehensive examination encompassed a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a breadth of bibliometric databases, spanning all disciplines. Among these, 5,000 scientists specializing in Computer Science were specifically analyzed. To qualify for inclusion in the Computer Science ranking, scientists were required to have a D-index of at least 30. Additionally, the majority of their tier publications needed to be concentrated in the area of Computer Science, ensuring disciplinary relevance. Awards and noteworthy achievements within the field further informed the evaluation process as supplementary criteria.
We apply a dynamic threshold for the D-index, increasing in increments of 10 relative to the estimated number of scholars within each discipline, to maintain a consistent standard of excellence. This approach guarantees that the top 1% of leading researchers in a given field are included. Furthermore, to ensure alignment between a researcher's overall impact and discipline-specific strength, candidates are required to have a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and their D-index.
Verification Practices and Transparency
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the nuances of scholarly contribution, the researchers responsible for this ranking conducted thorough manual verification of all scientist profiles. This process involved cross-correlating publications against a wide array of trustworthy sources to confirm accuracy and resolve discrepancies. While a researcher’s position is ultimately based on their D-index data extracted from OpenAlex and CrossRef—the foremost bibliometric databases accessible to the research community—the quantity of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings is acknowledged as an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s influence within their field, albeit not directly factored into ranking placement.
