The citation-based metrics forming the foundation of the ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. A researcher’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), which is a specialized variant of the classic H-index. The D-index considers only papers and citation metrics strictly within the examined discipline—here, Computer Science—thereby providing a refined measure of scholarly impact specific to the field.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking methodology involved examining 279,971 scientist profiles across all scientific disciplines, sourced from a broad range of bibliometric data repositories. Within this extensive dataset, 1,000 scientists from the field of Computer Science based in Liechtenstein were specifically analyzed for inclusion in this edition. To qualify for consideration, a scientist’s D-index needed to be at least 30, ensuring that only those with a significant track record of research influence within Computer Science were ranked. Additionally, the majority of a qualifying researcher’s tier publications had to be in this specific area, emphasizing domain expertise. Recognized awards and notable achievements in Computer Science were also important factors in assessing the prominence of the researchers.
The D-index threshold is not fixed uniformly but is calibrated in increments of 10, depending on the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This adaptive thresholding strategy guarantees the inclusion of the top 1% of leading scholars while maintaining disciplinary rigor and focus. Furthermore, to ensure relevance and consistency between overall impact and discipline-specific impact, only researchers with a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and their D-index were included, reinforcing the domain specificity of the ranking.

Though not a direct factor influencing the position within the ranking, the volume of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings was considered a valuable secondary signal of each scientist’s contribution to research in Computer Science. Ultimately, the final ranking positions are established primarily using the D-index metrics derived from information in OpenAlex and CrossRef, ensuring a robust and objective basis for comparison.
