A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), which specifically accounts for papers and citations associated with the examined discipline of Business and Management. This metric ensures a focused evaluation by considering only relevant contributions to the field.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking drew upon a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a wide array of bibliometric data sources spanning all disciplines. Of these, 1,000 scientists active in the Business and Management domain were meticulously examined.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index must be at least 30, and a majority of their tier publications must be within the Business and Management area. Additional considerations included notable awards and achievements specifically related to the field.
The threshold for the D-index is adaptively set in increments of 10, calibrated to the estimated total number of scholars per discipline, ensuring that the top 1% of leading experts are incorporated in the list. Furthermore, the ranking requires a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index, reinforcing the relevance of their expertise within the discipline.
Verification and Validation Practices
Understanding the limitations of raw bibliometric data, the researchers behind this ranking undertook a rigorous manual verification process. Each scientist profile was carefully cross-correlated with publications recorded in a broad range of trustworthy sources to ensure accuracy and validity.
While the number of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher's ranking position, it constitutes an important secondary signal of a scientist’s scholarly contributions within their field.
The final ranking positions are determined exclusively based on each researcher’s D-index, as ascertained from data aggregated by OpenAlex and CrossRef, among the most prominent and widely respected bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
