Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Business and Management Scientists in Mexico Ranking was primarily constructed using comprehensive bibliometric data derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other trusted data sources. These platforms represent some of the most prominent and well-established bibliometric databases available to the scholarly community globally. The citation-based metrics foundational to this ranking were collected as of January 12, 2026, ensuring the inclusion of the most up-to-date and accurate scholarly impact measures.
A scientist's position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a discipline-specific variant of the H-index that exclusively considers publications and citation metrics within the examined discipline—Business and Management in this case. This refined approach provides a more precise measure of a researcher's impact and contributions within their specific field.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking is grounded in an extensive evaluation of 279,971 scientist profiles identified through a diverse array of bibliometric sources across all scientific disciplines. Specifically, two thousand scientists from the Business and Management domain were examined to establish a rigorous and meaningful ranking within this field.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a candidate’s D-index was required to be at least 30, and a majority of their tier publications needed to fall within the Business and Management discipline. Additionally, a scientist’s awards and recognized achievements in this field were taken into account when assessing their qualification. The threshold for the D-index is adjusted in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total population of scholars in each discipline, with a deliberate aim to incorporate the top 1% of leading experts. Furthermore, a proximity criterion mandates that the disparity between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index remains within 30%, ensuring alignment between general and discipline-specific research impact.
Verification Practices and Methodological Rigor
The Research.com team recognizes that raw bibliometric data, while foundational, cannot singularly serve as an absolute metric for evaluating scholarly output. Therefore, all scientist profiles included in the ranking were meticulously manually verified. Publications were cross-correlated against a broad spectrum of reputable and trustworthy sources to ensure accuracy and authenticity.
Although the number of papers published in prestigious journals and high-impact conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher's ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary signal of scholarly contribution within the Business and Management field.
The ranking itself is anchored on each researcher’s D-index, as derived from data repositories OpenAlex and CrossRef—the leading bibliometric databases recognized by the academic and research community worldwide.
