Data Sources and Bibliometric Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Business and Management Scientists in Mexico Ranking was developed using multiple reputable data sources to ensure comprehensive and accurate assessments. The primary bibliometric data were obtained from OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside additional corroborating sources, to create a robust evidence base for scholarly output and citation metrics. The data collection for citation-based metrics occurred on January 12, 2026, providing an up-to-date snapshot of scientific contributions.
A researcher’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index). This metric selectively incorporates only the publications and citation counts relevant to the examined discipline—in this case, Business and Management—thereby reflecting a researcher’s specific impact within their field rather than their overall scholarly output.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
The ranking evaluation encompassed a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across diverse bibliometric databases spanning all disciplines. Of these, 2,000 profiles specifically related to the Business and Management domain were thoroughly analyzed.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 30, ensuring a focus on those with sustained scholarly influence. Additionally, the majority of a scientist’s tier publications needed to be situated within the Business and Management field. Beyond citation metrics, awards and professional achievements within the discipline were also considered qualitatively to capture leadership and excellence.
The threshold for considering top-tier researchers is dynamically set as increments of 10 in the D-index, calibrated according to the estimated total number of scholars per discipline. This approach guarantees that approximately the top 1% of leading experts are incorporated into the ranking. Furthermore, there is a strict criterion requiring a proximity of no more than 30% difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index, thereby validating the domain relevance of their research impact.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot comprehensively evaluate scholarly output, the Research.com team employed meticulous manual verification for all scientist profiles in the ranking. Each profile was corroborated against publications indexed in a wide range of reputable and trusted sources to ensure authenticity and accuracy.
While the ranking prioritizes the D-index for positioning, the volume of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to Business and Management research.
The ranking positions are ultimately established using data from OpenAlex and CrossRef—the two foremost bibliometric databases widely recognized and utilized by the scholarly community for evaluating research impact.
