Data Sources and Bibliometric Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Business and Management Scientists in Macedonia Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data extracted from OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple other reputable data sources. These platforms represent the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases available to the global research community. The citation-based metrics that underpin the ranking were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026. The core metric driving the positioning of each scientist in the ranking is the D-index (Discipline H-index), a discipline-specific adaptation of the traditional H-index that considers only the publications and citations directly related to the examined research area—in this case, Business and Management.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking analysis initially examined 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated from diverse bibliometric data sources across all academic disciplines. Among these, 1,000 scientists were identified as active researchers specifically within Business and Management. To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, a scientist was required to meet two primary thresholds: a minimum D-index of 30 and a substantial majority of their high-impact publications concentrated within the Business and Management domain. Moreover, scientists’ awards and notable achievements in the field were also factored into the qualification process.
The D-index threshold is carefully calibrated as an increment of 10 points according to the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline, ensuring that the ranking captures the top 1% of leading researchers. Additionally, to guarantee relevance and specialization, the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their Business and Management-specific D-index was restricted to a proximity of 30% or less.
Verification and Validation Practices
While bibliometric data serve as a foundation, the Research.com team recognizes that raw citation metrics alone cannot comprehensively or absolutely evaluate scholarly output. Consequently, every scientist profile included in the ranking underwent manual verification. Profiles were meticulously cross-correlated against publications sourced from a broad spectrum of trustworthy and authoritative academic journals, conference proceedings, and other high-quality scientific outlets.
Although not directly influencing the scientist’s ranked position, the number of publications in prominent venues constitutes a valuable secondary indicator of scholarly contribution within the Business and Management research community. The ranking positions themselves are established exclusively based on the D-index, derived from data gathered via OpenAlex and CrossRef.
