Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Biology and Biochemistry Scientists in Iran Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data gathered from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data sources. These platforms are among the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases available to the global research community, ensuring the reliability and robustness of the underlying data. The collection of citation-based metrics used to derive the ranking was performed on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), which specifically reflects the impact and output of a researcher within the Biology and Biochemistry disciplines. This metric includes only papers and citations relevant to the examined discipline, providing a precise measure of scholarly influence in this field.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
A total of 188,046 scientist profiles identified across a wide array of bibliometric data sources were analyzed covering all academic disciplines. Within this extensive dataset, 20 scientists specializing in Biology and Biochemistry were examined in detail. To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, a scientist must have attained a D-index of at least 40, with the majority of their top-tier publications concentrated in the area of Biology and Biochemistry.
In addition to bibliometric thresholds, consideration was given to a scientist’s awards and notable achievements within the field. The D-index threshold for top researchers is calibrated in increments of 10 relative to the estimated number of scholars within each discipline, ensuring that the top 1% of leading experts are duly recognized and incorporated. Furthermore, the methodology maintains that the difference between a scientist’s overall H-index and their disciplinary-specific D-index does not exceed 30%, thereby emphasizing specialization and focused scholarly excellence in Biology and Biochemistry.
Verification and Quality Assurance
The researchers behind this ranking acknowledge that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of academic contribution or impact. Consequently, all scientist profiles underwent rigorous manual verification and were cross-correlated against publications and records from a diverse range of highly trustworthy sources. While the number of publications in leading journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the ranking position, it constitutes an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s research contribution within the discipline.
Positioning in the ranking is established exclusively on the D-index values derived from the meticulously curated data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef. These databases are recognized for their comprehensive coverage and accuracy, lending substantial credibility to the ranking outcomes.
