A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized bibliometric metric that exclusively accounts for papers and citation data pertinent to the examined discipline. This approach ensures that rankings reflect impact and productivity specifically in Animal Science and Veterinary, rather than general research output.
Scope of Research and Selection Criteria
The ranking is founded on an exhaustive review of 279,971 scientist profiles extracted from diverse bibliometric data sources spanning all academic disciplines. From this pool, 1 scientist specializing in Animal Science and Veterinary in Uganda was identified and evaluated in detail. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, scientists were required to have a minimum D-index of 20, with a majority of their tier publications focused within the Animal Science and Veterinary domain.
In addition to bibliometric thresholds, a candidate’s awards and achievements in Animal Science and Veterinary research were considered as supplementary indicators of scholarly excellence. The threshold D-index is calibrated in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline, ensuring that roughly the top 1% of leading experts are incorporated in the final list. Moreover, to maintain focus and relevance, the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index was required to be 30% or less.
Verification and Validation Practices
The research team recognizes that raw bibliometric data should never serve as the sole criterion for evaluating a scholar’s impact or productivity. Accordingly, each scientist profile included in the ranking was subjected to meticulous manual verification. Profiles were cross-correlated with publications indexed in a wide variety of trustworthy and independent sources to ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness.
Although the number of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the ranking position, it is regarded as a valuable secondary indicator reflecting a scientist’s research contribution and influence within Animal Science and Veterinary. Ultimately, ranking positions are established using each researcher’s D-index derived from OpenAlex, CrossRef, and related prominent bibliometric databases widely respected and utilized by the global research community.
