Data Sources and Bibliometric Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Animal Science and Veterinary Scientists in Croatia Ranking is grounded on comprehensive data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple other reputable bibliometric databases. The bibliometric data used to calculate citation-based metrics were collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring the most current and accurate assessment possible. Researchers' positions within the ranking are determined by their Discipline H-index (D-index), a refined metric that exclusively accounts for publications and citation impact within the examined discipline. This targeted approach enables a precise evaluation of a scientist’s influence and contributions specific to Animal Science and Veterinary domains.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
This ranking is based on a meticulous examination of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from diverse bibliometric sources across all disciplines, including 1 scientist specifically classified under Animal Science and Veterinary. To qualify for consideration in this ranking, a scientist must have a D-index of at least 20, with the majority of their tier publications falling within the Animal Science and Veterinary area. Additionally, awards and other notable achievements within the field were assessed as supplementary factors.
The threshold for the D-index is established in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This method guarantees inclusion of the top 1% of leading scholars in the field. Furthermore, a close alignment—defined as a proximity of 30% or less—between a scientist's overall H-index and their D-index is required to maintain coherence between general and discipline-specific impact.
Verification Practices
The Research.com team recognizes that raw bibliometric data alone cannot provide an absolute evaluation of scholarly output. Consequently, all scientist profiles included in the ranking were subject to manual verification and cross-correlation against publications indexed by a wide array of trustworthy sources. While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings is not a direct factor in determining a researcher’s rank, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of their scientific contribution within the target discipline.
The established ranking positions are based on each researcher’s D-index, calculated exclusively from data aggregated via OpenAlex and CrossRef—the most prominent and well-established bibliometric platforms accessible to the global research community.
