The bibliometric data utilized to devise the citation-based metrics for this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. A core metric employed in determining a scientist's standing within the ranking is the D-index (Discipline H-index), which is a refined measure considering only the papers and citations relevant to the examined discipline. This approach ensures that the assessment reflects a researcher’s true impact within the specialized field of Animal Science and Veterinary studies.
Scope of Research Covered
Our methodology began with an evaluation of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a wide variety of bibliometric data sources across all academic disciplines. Specifically, 2 scientists were identified within the Animal Science and Veterinary domain for detailed consideration. To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, each scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 20, with the majority of their tier publications focusing on Animal Science and Veterinary topics.
Additionally, the recognition of scientists’ awards and achievements in the field was factored into the evaluation process. The D-index threshold is dynamically adjusted by increments of 10, depending on the total estimated number of scholars within each discipline. This ensures the inclusion of roughly the top 1% of leading experts while maintaining rigorous selectivity. We also require that there be a proximity of no more than 30% between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index, emphasizing domain-specific excellence alongside overall research impact.
Additional Verification Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data cannot serve as an absolute measure for evaluating scholarly output, our team employed extensive manual verification procedures. Each scientist’s profile was meticulously cross-correlated against publications listed in trusted and diverse sources to verify the accuracy and relevance of their scholarly contributions.
Although not directly influencing the ranking positions, the number of articles published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings was regarded as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s contribution to the field. Position in the ranking is determined based on the D-index calculated from data aggregated primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which remain the leading bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
