Overview of the University of Macau
The University of Macau (UM), established in 1981, is the leading public comprehensive university in the Macao Special Administrative Region of China. Originally founded as the University of East Asia, UM evolved into a prominent institution after its reorganization in 1991. The university is situated on Hengqin Island, adjacent to Macao’s city center and close to the Pearl River Delta. As of 2024, UM enrolls approximately 12,000 students across undergraduate and postgraduate levels and is organized into seven faculties housed on a modern, international-standard campus covering over one square kilometer.
