Villanova University is a private university based in Radnor, Pennsylvania. The oldest Catholic university in the state, it is also the only one run by the religious order, the Augustinians, in the United States. With the majority of the student body Catholics, freshmen are required to take an introductory course about the religious order’s culture. Villanova has a significant volume of research and development papers churned out yearly.
The university offers a whole range of fields of study in its undergraduate and graduate schools. The more popular ones include courses in business management, marketing, engineering, journalism, communication and health sciences. Law and liberal arts are likewise offered, as well as professional studies for continuing education.
Villanova’s business, engineering, MBA programs and law have ranked in the top 200 range among the best academic programs in the country in the past. At one time or another, too, the university has been ranked among the best 50+ national universities, best 30+ undergraduate training and best 60+ value schools.

Meanwhile, the acceptance rate is selective, with half of the applicants scoring an average of 1320 to 1470 in SAT or 31 to 34 in ACT.
Most administrative offices are located on the main campus, which also houses the student center, library, main cafeteria, bookstore, a sports center and the Villanova Chapel. The school of law, meanwhile, is based on the west campus while freshman residences are located on the south campus.
The university library archives more than a million items that include books, television production materials and periodicals. It also houses resource centers for writing and math.
Villanova University dates back to the early years of the country. In 1796, Augustinian friars founded the old Saint Augustine’s Church in Philadelphia. Years later, the chapel would expand to see the founding of the Saint Augustine’s Academy, a parish school. From here, the school would introduce more academic programs, such as The School of Technology in 1905 and pre-medical courses in 1915. The School of Law and the College of Nursing would follow suit in 1953 and, in 1953, Villanova earned its university charter.
The university has produced notable alumni including Jill Biden, Sonia O”Sullivan (track & field olympian) and Joseph Clancy (former director of the U.S. Secret Service).
