Overview

Poznan University of Technology, or PUT, is one of Poland’s best technical universities. Globally, PUT belongs to the top 6% of universities according to University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP). PUT also became the first Polish university to be part of the Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research, which is an organization of leading European technical universities. In the most recent Academic Ranking of World Universities, also known as the Shanghai Ranking, PUT is recognized as one of the top 500 universities in computer science and engineering and mechanical engineering studies.

As a technical university, PUT offers a total of 31 fields of study administered by nine faculties, six of which are category A and the rest are given category B ratings. Its wide range of academic programs focuses on engineering, modern technology, and communications, such as robotics, technical physics, environmental engineering, chemical technology, pharmaceutical engineering, and more. PUT also offers architecture studies that cover architecture I and II, interior architecture, and the postgraduate study in spatial planning. The Faculty of Architecture is a multi-awarded faculty. In fact, it earned the highest grade given by the Polish Accreditation Commission in 2018 and the European quality certificate EUR-ACE® Label. Aside from these awards, PUT’s Faculty of Architecture is also officially recognized by the Accreditation Commission of Technical Universities called KAUT.

The university’s roots can be traced as far back as 1919 during the establishment of the State Higher School of Mechanical Engineering by the Supreme People’s Council, a political organization in Prussian Poland. The academic institution was renamed State Higher School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering during the same year and remained operational until World War II. After the war in 1945, the school reopened with the name School of Engineering. It was during this time that the effort to completely transform the school into a university continued after the plan was halted when the war broke. Ten years later, the School of Engineering was officially named Poznan University of Technology.

Before World War II, the institution was able to oversee the graduation of 716 students. Nearly 65 years after earning its university status, PUT is now educating more than 17,000 students and employing more than 1,000 staff. Despite its growth, PUT continues to strive toward its goal to not only become a leading university in the country and in Europe but also to establish a strong relationship with foreign universities.
