National Yunlin University of Science and Technology

National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech) is a public university in Douliu City, Yunlin County, Taiwan. Established in 1991, the university is a member of the National Yunlin University system. It is also affiliated with the Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, and the University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific. At present, YunTech is one of the fastest-rising higher education institutions in the country.

YunTech’s educational structure is composed of five colleges. These colleges are the College of Humanities and Applied Sciences, the College of Engineering, the College of Design, and the College of Management. It also provides students with 29 master’s, 23 undergraduate, and 13 doctoral programs in various fields of study, including engineering, business administration, accounting, and industrial design.

The university currently has nearly 10,000 undergraduates and postgraduates. They are being managed by a 354-strong academic faculty which are spread across several colleges and departments in its 143-acre campus. Over 70% of its faculty has massive experience in the industrial sectors and roughly 50% received their postgraduate degrees from esteemed universities in Europe and the United States.

YunTech has been delivering high-quality research outputs on multiple subjects consistently for more than two decades. This is made possible through sponsorships and grants from external organizations, including the Central Government and the County Council.

The university’s top three research fields are computer science, materials science, and engineering. National Yunlin University of Science and Technology has also sent its researchers to international research conferences and symposiums such as SOCO: Soft Computing, PESC: Power Electronics Specialist Conference, and SMC: Systems, Man and Cybernetics.

Its most cited research output is Chen et al.’s (2006) “The influence of green innovation performance on corporate advantage in Taiwan,” which was published in the Journal of Business Ethics and cited 1,129 times. YunTech’s second most popular work is Hua et al.’s (1998) “Implementation of a DSP-controlled photovoltaic system with peak power tracking,” which was published in the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and 1,043 citations.

Meanwhile, its third most cited research work is Shih and Fang (2004) “The use of a decomposed theory of planned behavior to study Internet banking in Taiwan.” Published in Internet Research, this article which talks about customers’ intention to use internet banking has been cited by students and research professionals worldwide 947 times.

National Yunlin University of Science and Technology research teams are also provided with state-of-the-art facilities such as research and development centers for their activities. These facilities include the Future Technology Research Center, the Center for Distance Learning, and the Computer Technology Research Center.
