A university's position in this ranking is determined by the sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all affiliated scholars whose primary publication area is in Law. The D-index specifically considers only publications and citation data within the Law discipline, providing a focused and discipline-accurate benchmark.
Scope of Research and Scholar Selection
The scope of this endeavor is significant: 279,971 scientist profiles from a diverse array of bibliometric data sources were reviewed. Of these, 2,158 scholars working primarily within the field of Law were selected for in-depth analysis. A rigorous inclusion criterion was adopted: researchers needed to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 20, with the majority of their top-tier publications in the Law discipline. Additionally, individual awards and notable achievements in Law contributed to the researcher’s evaluation.
To ensure the representation of elite scholars, the D-index threshold for top researchers incrementally increased by 10, calibrated for the size of each discipline, and in every instance ensuring that the leading 1% of scholars were featured. Consistency requirements stipulate that a scholar's D-index must be within 30% of their overall H-index, reinforcing subject relevance. Further, awards and field-specific achievements were factored into the final ranking.
Verification Practices and Data Integrity
Recognizing the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data, the Research.com team undertook comprehensive manual verification of each scientist profile. This was complemented by cross-correlation against publications in a variety of credible, authoritative sources.
While publication in prominent journals and esteemed conference proceedings was not a direct ranking metric, Research.com acknowledges that such achievements are an important secondary indicator of an individual scholar’s contribution to their field.
The ranking itself is anchored in each researcher’s H-index, as verified by data from OpenAlex and CrossRef—the leading global bibliometric databases trusted by the research community.
