The ranking examines a total of 188,172 scientist profiles drawn from a broad spectrum of bibliometric data sources spanning all scientific disciplines. Specifically, 1,711 scientists identified with Physics research were evaluated for inclusion.
To qualify for the ranking, a scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 70, with a majority of their tier publications concentrated in the area of Physics. Alongside bibliometric thresholds, distinguished awards and notable achievements within the field of Physics were also considered to round out the assessment of each candidate’s influence.
Notably, the D-index threshold for recognizing top researchers is calibrated in increments of 10 relative to the total number of scholars estimated per discipline. This approach maintains a consistent representation of approximately the top 1% of leading scholars in the field, thus preserving the ranking's exclusivity and rigor. Additionally, to ensure disciplinary focus, only scientists exhibiting a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and D-index were considered—highlighting those whose primary impact lies within Physics.

The research team behind this ranking is fully cognizant that raw bibliometric data alone does not provide an exhaustive or absolute evaluation of scholarly output. Accordingly, every scientist’s profile was subjected to meticulous manual verification. Profiles were cross-correlated with publications indexed across a range of trustworthy, authoritative sources to authenticate the data’s accuracy and relevance.
While the number of papers published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings is not a direct factor in determining a researcher’s ranking position, it is acknowledged as a valuable secondary signal of their contribution and influence within the discipline.
The final position in the ranking is firmly grounded in the researcher’s D-index, calculated using data extracted from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and respected bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
