While the ranking position is primarily determined using the D-index derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent open-access bibliometric databases available to the scientific community—the quantity of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings remains an important secondary signal of a researcher’s influence within Microbiology.
