A scientist’s position in this ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized metric that evaluates a researcher’s impact strictly within the discipline under examination. The D-index only includes papers and citation metrics relevant to the specific field of Law, facilitating a more precise and meaningful comparison among scholars active in this discipline.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
The ranking examines 279,971 scientist profiles drawn from a variety of bibliometric data sources that encompass all academic disciplines. Specifically, 1,000 scientists specializing in Law were identified for detailed assessment. To qualify for inclusion in the Law ranking, a researcher’s D-index must be at least 20, ensuring a significant level of scholarly influence within the discipline. Additionally, a majority of their tier publications must be focused on the area of Law.
Beyond bibliometric thresholds, scientists’ awards and achievements within the field of Law were also considered as supplementary validation factors, reinforcing the rigor of the selection process. The D-index threshold for considering top researchers is dynamically scaled in increments of 10, corresponding to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This approach guarantees that the top 1% of leading scholars in the field are consistently incorporated into the ranking.
To ensure disciplinary relevance, there is a requisite proximity constraint where the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index must not exceed 30%, further aligning the ranking focus on disciplinary excellence.
Additional Verification Practices
At Research.com, we acknowledge that raw bibliometric data alone cannot definitively evaluate the scholarly output of researchers. Consequently, all scientist profiles included in this ranking were manually verified and cross-correlated against publications indexed in a broad range of reputable and trustworthy sources. This meticulous validation process helps safeguard the accuracy and credibility of the final list.
While not a direct factor in determining a researcher’s rank, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings serves as a valuable secondary signal of a scientist’s contribution to the field of Law, offering an additional layer of insight into research influence and reach.
The final position of each researcher in the ranking is established using their D-index, based on the high-quality bibliometric information gathered from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most recognized and respected databases available to the global research community.
