Data Sources and Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Engineering and Technology Scientists in Pakistan Ranking is based on comprehensive bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, along with multiple other reputable data repositories. The bibliometric information, which forms the foundation for the citation-based metrics used in this ranking, was collected on January 12, 2026. To determine a scientist's position within the ranking, we utilize the D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that includes only publications and citation counts pertinent to the specific discipline under examination, thereby ensuring a focused and discipline-accurate evaluation of research impact.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
This ranking examined a total of 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated from a diverse array of bibliometric data sources, encompassing all scientific disciplines worldwide. Within the Engineering and Technology field, 17 scientists from Pakistan were specifically evaluated. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist's D-index was required to be at least 30, and a majority of their tier publications needed to be within Engineering and Technology. Additionally, notable awards and achievements in this field were considered to complement the citation-based assessment.
The D-index threshold for selection is determined in increments of 10, calibrated against the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This methodology ensures that the ranking reliably includes the top 1% of leading researchers in the field. Furthermore, to maintain consistency and integrity of disciplinary focus, candidates were required to demonstrate a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and their D-index.
Verification and Validation Practices
Research.com acknowledges the inherent limitations of relying solely on raw bibliometric data to evaluate scholarly output. Accordingly, all scientist profiles featured in the ranking underwent manual verification by our research team. This included cross-referencing publications against a broad spectrum of trustworthy sources to confirm accuracy and authenticity. While not directly influencing ranking placement, the volume of publications in highly regarded journals and conference proceedings was also reviewed as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist's substantive contributions to Engineering and Technology research.
The ranking positions are strictly derived from each researcher's D-index as computed from data obtained from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are recognized as the most authoritative and widely used bibliometric databases available to the academic community.
