Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Economics and Finance Scientists in Oman Ranking is primarily based on bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple other reputable data repositories. The citation-based metrics that underpin this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring the most current and comprehensive data set available at the time of analysis. A key metric used for positioning researchers in this ranking is the D-index (Discipline H-index), which specifically measures a scientist’s scholarly output and citation impact confined exclusively to the examined discipline—Economics and Finance in this case. This refined focus allows for a more accurate reflection of expertise within the discipline.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
Our analysis encompassed a vast scope, initially evaluating 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a wide array of bibliometric data sources covering all academic disciplines. Within this extensive dataset, 3 scientists specialized in Economics and Finance were examined in detail for inclusion in the current ranking. To qualify, a scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 30, emphasizing significant scholarly impact within Economics and Finance. Additionally, the majority of their tier publications needed to be situated within this field to ensure disciplinary relevance.
Besides bibliometric thresholds, consideration was also given to scientists’ awards and notable achievements specifically within Economics and Finance, further strengthening the credibility of those included. The D-index threshold is adaptive and increments by 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, guaranteeing inclusion of the top 1% of leading researchers. To ensure disciplinary focus aligns closely with overall impact, the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index must not exceed 30%.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data as absolute evaluative tools, the Research.com team implemented rigorous manual verification processes. All scientist profiles were carefully cross-correlated against publications in a broad range of trustworthy and authoritative sources to confirm accuracy and to mitigate issues such as author misidentification or data inconsistencies.
While the number of papers published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s rank within this system, it serves as an important secondary indicator of scholarly contribution and impact within the discipline. The ranking itself is determined via the D-index, leveraging citation and publication information curated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
