Bibliometric data used to calculate the citation-based metrics were collected on January 12, 2026. Each scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that includes only those papers and citation counts directly relevant to the examined discipline—in this case, Economics and Finance. This approach ensures that the ranking precisely reflects research impact within the specific field under evaluation, rather than general scholarly influence.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking considered a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a broad spectrum of academic disciplines via multiple bibliometric data sources. Specifically within the Economics and Finance discipline, three scientists were evaluated for inclusion in this edition.
To qualify for the ranking, a scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 30, reflecting a substantial and sustained research impact within Economics and Finance. Furthermore, a majority of their tier publications had to be firmly situated within this specialized area. Beyond bibliometric thresholds, scientists’ awards and achievements relevant to Economics and Finance were also carefully considered.
The threshold for D-index consideration is dynamically set in increments of 10, adjusted based on the total estimated number of scholars in each discipline to maintain a consistent level of rigor. This method guarantees inclusion of the top 1% of leading scholars discipline-wide. Additionally, a proximity criterion was applied whereby the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index could not exceed 30%, reinforcing that their influence is strongly anchored within the focal discipline.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
Understanding that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the quality or significance of scholarly output, the Research.com team implemented extensive manual verification processes. All scientist profiles were cross-checked against publications indexed in a wide range of trustworthy academic sources to confirm accuracy and authenticity.
While the number of papers published in prestigious journals and leading conference proceedings is not a direct factor influencing the ranking position, it provides a valuable secondary signal highlighting a researcher’s contribution and standing within the Economics and Finance community.
The final ranking positions are determined strictly by the D-index metric, derived from data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, thus relying on the most comprehensive and credible bibliometric information currently available.
