Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Ecology and Evolution Scientists in Cameroon Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple other reputable databases. These platforms represent some of the most prominent and reliable repositories of scholarly publication and citation information accessible to the global research community. The citation-based metrics used in the ranking were compiled on January 12, 2026, ensuring the most up-to-date and relevant data was utilized.
A scientist's position in this ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that considers only the papers and citation counts directly related to the examined discipline of Ecology and Evolution. This focus on discipline-specific impact provides a more accurate representation of a researcher’s contributions within their field.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
The scope of the ranking encompasses a broad examination of 279,971 scientist profiles identified through a variety of bibliometric data sources encompassing all disciplines globally. From this extensive dataset, 2,000 scientists specializing in Ecology and Evolution specifically were thoroughly evaluated.
To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 30, with the majority of their tier publications firmly rooted in Ecology and Evolution. Beyond bibliometric indicators, scientists’ awards and notable achievements within the field were also critically considered to complement the quantitative data.
The D-index threshold is calibrated in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, thereby ensuring the inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts. Furthermore, a proximity threshold was maintained whereby the difference between a scientist's overall general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, reinforcing the specificity and relevance of the ranking to the target discipline.
Verification and Validation Practices
Research.com recognizes that raw bibliometric data should never serve as an absolute measure for evaluating scholarly output. Accordingly, all scientist profiles included in this ranking underwent manual verification and cross-correlation against publications indexed in a wide array of trustworthy sources to ensure accuracy and authenticity.
Although not directly impacting a scientist’s standing within the ranking, the number of publications in prominent journals and key conference proceedings was considered a valuable secondary indicator of scholarly contribution. The primary positioning remains grounded in the D-index derived from data obtained through OpenAlex and CrossRef.
