Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Earth Science Scientists in Slovakia Ranking is primarily based on bibliometric data consolidated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reliable data sources. The citation-based metrics used to establish the ranking were collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring the most current and comprehensive snapshot of scholarly impact. A scientist's position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), which exclusively considers publications and citation metrics relevant to the specific discipline of Earth Science. This focused approach allows for a more accurate reflection of scholarly influence within the field.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking process examined a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a broad spectrum of bibliometric data sources and disciplines. Among these, 3 scientists were specifically identified within the Earth Science domain in Slovakia. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, researchers were required to have a D-index of at least 30, with the majority of their tier publications concentrated in Earth Science. Additionally, consideration was given to scientists' awards and notable achievements within the discipline.
The threshold for the D-index is set in increments of 10, depending on the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline, ensuring that the top 1% of leading researchers are incorporated. Furthermore, there is an expectation of proximity between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index of 30% or less, ensuring alignment between their general research impact and disciplinary specialization.
Verification and Evaluation Process
The research team behind this ranking acknowledges that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute tool for evaluating the output of individual scholars. Consequently, all scientist profiles were manually verified and cross-correlated against a wide range of trustworthy publication sources to confirm accuracy and consistency. While the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary signal of a scholar’s contribution to Earth Science research.
The ranking position itself is established through each researcher’s D-index, calculated from data gathered primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
