A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a discipline-specific variant of the H-index. The D-index exclusively considers papers and citations relevant to the examined discipline—here, Computer Science—thereby enabling a focused assessment of a researcher’s contribution within their core area of expertise.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
The scope of the ranking was established through a rigorous evaluation of 279,971 scientist profiles drawn from diverse bibliometric databases spanning all scientific disciplines. Among these, profiles of four scientists specifically identified with Computer Science in Colombia were examined in detail.
To qualify for this ranking, scientists were required to have a D-index of at least 30. Furthermore, the majority of their tier publications needed to be within the field of Computer Science. Awards and notable achievements in the discipline were also taken into consideration to complement bibliometric indicators.
The threshold of the D-index for consideration varies by discipline, incremented in steps of 10 relative to the estimated total number of researchers in each field. This approach ensures that the ranking consistently incorporates the top 1% of leading scholars within their respective disciplines. Additionally, to maintain consistency and relevance, a candidate’s D-index must closely correlate with their overall H-index, with a maximum allowed difference of 30% between these two metrics.
Verification Practices and Ranking Methodology
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the multifaceted nature of scholarly output, our team undertook meticulous manual verification procedures. Each scientist profile included in the ranking was carefully cross-correlated against publications in a wide range of trustworthy and reputable sources to confirm accuracy and correct attribution.
While not directly influencing the ranking position, the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings serves as a supplementary indicator of a researcher’s impact and sustained contribution within Computer Science.
The final ranking positions are determined by applying the D-index metric based on data aggregated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, reflecting the most reliable bibliometric evidence available.
