The bibliometric data used to construct the citation-based metrics underpinning the ranking were systematically collected on January 12, 2026. To accurately reflect disciplinary impact, a scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), which exclusively includes publications and citation metrics relevant to the Business and Management discipline under examination. This ensures that rankings are discipline-specific and avoid conflating performance across unrelated fields.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
In total, 279,971 scientist profiles were identified and analyzed across all academic disciplines through the integration of multiple bibliometric data sources. Within this broad dataset, the present ranking focuses on 2,000 scientists working specifically in Business and Management.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist must meet the following criteria:
- Possess a D-index of at least 30 within Business and Management.
- Have a majority of their tier publications concentrated within the Business and Management discipline.
- Demonstrate recognized awards and achievements relevant to Business and Management research.
The threshold D-index for identifying top researchers is dynamically set as increments of 10, calibrated according to the estimated total number of scholars per discipline. This approach is designed to ensure that the ranking consistently incorporates the top 1% of leading scholars within Business and Management. Furthermore, a proximity criterion is applied such that the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, guaranteeing that their impact is meaningfully concentrated in the examined discipline.
Additional Verification Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the quality and impact of scholarly output, all scientist profiles included in the ranking underwent manual verification by the Research.com team. This process involved cross-correlating publication records across a broad range of trustworthy scholarly sources, ensuring accuracy and authentic representation of each researcher’s contributions.
While the number of papers published in prominent journals and prestigious conference proceedings is not a direct factor in determining ranking position, it serves as an important supplementary indicator of a scientist’s role and influence within the Business and Management research community.
The ranking positions are ultimately established through the careful computation of each researcher’s D-index anchored in data from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which remain the most prominent and widely trusted bibliometric databases accessible to researchers worldwide.
