National Dong Hwa University (NDHU) is a public national research university situated in Taiwan’s Hualien County. It is recognized as a high-potential research university and the most prestigious higher education institution in all of Eastern Taiwan. As such, it offers diverse course offerings across various disciplines, from arts and business to sciences and engineering.
NDHU was established in 1994 after three years of planning. Its foundation was part of the Ministry of Education’s mission to foster balanced regional development across Taiwan, which was made possible by evenly distributing educational institutions in all parts of the country. In 2008, the university merged with the National Hualien University of Education, which was established in 1947. Because of the merger, NDHU now has two main campuses: the original NDHU campus in Shoufeng Township and the Meilun campus in Hualien City. These two campuses are distinctive because of their highly nature-based setting. Moreover, the Shoufeng campus is the largest flat-land school campus in Taiwan. It is also famed for its architecture.
National Dong Hwa University is currently composed of eight colleges: (1) Arts, (2) Education, (3) Management, (4) Environmental Studies, (5) Science and Engineering, (6) Humanities and Social Sciences, (7) Marine Sciences, and (8) Indigenous Studies. It has 35 academic departments and 48 graduate institutes, from which 17 PhD programs are offered. The university also has multiple research centers. Aside from the two main campuses, NDHU also runs a campus in Pingtung County, which is home to the College of Marine Science.
NDHU serves more than 10,000 students, around 3,800 of whom are graduate students. The university follows a rigorous admission process that includes an entrance examination. The student body represents diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, as it has students not just from Taiwan but also from other countries as well. NDHU has students that hail from Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, and India, to name a few. Furthermore, the university has more than 500 scholars at present, and they dedicate themselves to research and teaching. It is also worth noting that almost all of NDHU’s full-time faculty members are PhD degree holders from prestigious institutions all over the globe.
NDHU also offers various professional training and development opportunities designed to help increase the availability of highly qualified local human resources in the region. It also shares its resources, such as its library and athletic facilities, with other educational institutions in the area. The university’s faculty members and staff play an active role in facilitating and supporting local academic and cultural projects.
D-index (Discipline H-index) only includes papers and citation values for an examined discipline in
contrast to General H-index which accounts for publications across all disciplines.
Our research was coordinated by Imed Bouchrika, PhD, a computer scientist with a well-established record
of collaboration on a number of international research projects with different partners from the academic
community. His role was to make sure all data remained unbiased, accurate, and up-to-date.
We list only scientists having Microsoft Academic Graph D-Index >= 30 within the area of
