École des Ponts ParisTech (ENPC) is a university-level research institution. It was founded by renowned civil engineer Daniel Charles-Trudaine, one of the pioneer developers of the modern French road system, with the intention of training and educating local civil engineers to build the country’s bridges, roads, and canals. The school adopted its current name in 1775. After World War II, the school actively developed the link between engineering and economics. ENPC’s master’s, advanced master’s, and PhD programs are offered through these departments.
Furthermore, Ponts is also known for offering an undergraduate-graduate engineering program known as the Diplôme d'Ingénieur. It is Ponts’ main and original program. Its type of curriculum is exclusive to Grandes Écoles such as ENPC. This program is considered to be equivalent to a Master of Science.
