Institutional ranking positions were determined by aggregating the D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all recognized scholars with a primary affiliation in Psychology at each institution. The D-index is a specialized H-index that accounts solely for publications and citation data within the analyzed discipline, offering a robust and discipline-specific benchmark of scholarly output and impact.
Scope of Research Evaluated
The ranking’s methodology is premised on a rigorous evaluation of 279,971 scientist profiles, identified through a diverse suite of bibliometric sources. Of these, 38,989 scientists specializing in Psychology were thoroughly analyzed. To be included, scientists were required to have a D-index of at least 30, and the majority of their high-tier publication record needed to reside within Psychology.
Notably, a qualifying scientist's profile had to demonstrate that the difference between their general H-index and their D-index did not exceed 30%, ensuring that researchers have a predominant impact within Psychology rather than in adjacent fields. The D-index threshold for identifying top researchers was set with an incremental interval of 10, scaled according to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This approach assures that the top 1% of leading scholars are comprehensively recognized. In addition, special consideration was given to scientists’ awards and notable achievements in Psychology, further cementing the qualitative integrity of the ranking.
Verification and Quality Assurance Practices
Recognizing the limitations of purely quantitative analysis, all scientist profiles underwent manual verification. This process included cross-referencing profiles and publication records in an array of authoritative sources, strengthening the reliability of the findings.
While the number of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings was not a direct determining factor in the ranking positions, it remains an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to the field. The core ranking metric, each scholar’s H-index (and consequently, the D-index), was determined from the most prominent and reputable bibliometric databases available: OpenAlex and CrossRef.
