Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
To ensure exceptional coverage and accuracy, profiles of 279,971 scientists identified from a broad array of bibliometric databases were screened. Of these, 50,429 scientists specializing specifically in Engineering and Technology were analyzed for ranking consideration.
Eligibility criteria for inclusion required:
- A minimum D-index threshold of 30 for each scientist in Engineering and Technology.
- The majority of a candidate’s highly-ranked publications concentrated in Engineering and Technology.
- Consideration of a scientist’s awards and achievements within the field.
- An adaptive D-index threshold (in increments of 10) proportional to the total number of scholars per discipline, always ensuring the top 1% of leading scholars are represented.
- A requirement that the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and D-index does not exceed 30%, reinforcing disciplinary focus and expertise.
In tandem with quantitative metrics, each scholar’s recognition through field-specific awards and achievements was considered, offering a secondary qualitative assessment.
Verification and Validation Procedures
Recognizing the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data as sole evaluative measures, a rigorous manual verification process was employed. All scientist profiles underwent cross-checking against publication records from a diverse range of authoritative sources, safeguarding accuracy and completeness.
While the number of articles published in top journals and conferences is not a direct factor influencing rank, it is recommended as a supplementary indicator of a scientist's influence and contribution within Engineering and Technology.
Ranking positions are established based on each researcher’s H-index calculated strictly within the discipline, as informed by leading bibliometric databases—OpenAlex and CrossRef—which are recognized globally as benchmarks for research metrics in the academic community.
