A university’s position in the ranking is determined by the cumulative sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all affiliated scholars whose primary publication area is Business and Management. The D-index exclusively measures publications and citation data within the examined discipline, therefore providing a nuanced and specific evaluation of research impact and productivity in Business and Management.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking analyzed profiles from an extensive pool of 279,971 scientists identified across diverse bibliometric databases. From this dataset, 11,376 scholars specializing in Business and Management were subject to focused examination.
To qualify for consideration, each scientist was required to have a D-index threshold of at least 30, with a majority of their Tier 1 publications concentrated in Business and Management. In addition to bibliometric indicators, scientists’ awards and achievements specifically within the Business and Management discipline were factored in to ensure recognition of scholarly excellence.
Notably, the D-index threshold for top researchers is adaptively set in increments of 10, reflecting the estimated total number of scholars per discipline. This adaptive thresholding guarantees inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts in the field. An additional proximity criterion ensures that a scientist’s D-index is within 30% of their overall H-index, reinforcing the discipline-specific focus.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
The research team recognizes that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute instrument for evaluating scholarly output. Consequently, all scientist profiles were manually verified and cross-referenced against publications drawn from a broad spectrum of trustworthy sources.
While the quantity of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the ranking position, it provides an invaluable secondary indicator of a scientist’s impact and contribution in Business and Management research.
Each researcher’s H-index, as inferred from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most authoritative bibliometric databases available to the research community, forms the quantitative basis of the ranking.
