Institutional positioning within the ranking is determined by aggregating the D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all included scholars affiliated with a given university, provided their main field of publication is Business and Management. The D-index is discipline-specific and reflects only publications and citation metrics strictly within the targeted research area, thus ensuring high precision and subject relevance.
Scope of Research and Selection Criteria
The current ranking is based on an exhaustive analysis of 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from a wide array of bibliometric data providers. Out of these, 9,829 scientists were identified as experts whose primary area of research and publication is in Business and Management.
Eligibility for inclusion required a minimum D-index threshold of 30, and a majority of each scholar’s high-impact publications had to be in the discipline of Business and Management. Additionally, the professional accolades and distinctions achieved by each candidate in the field were qualitatively factored into the evaluation.
To maintain rigor and fairness, the D-index threshold for top researcher consideration is adjusted incrementally (by 10-point steps), depending on the total estimated number of scholars per discipline. This approach ensures that the top 1% of leading scholars are represented and not overlooked due to arbitrary cut-offs. Furthermore, there is a requirement for a proximity of no greater than 30% between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index in order to assure disciplinary focus. Awards and significant achievements in Business and Management further influenced standing in the ranking.
Verification Processes and Additional Evaluation Practices
The Research.com team is fully aware that raw bibliometric data cannot single-handedly encapsulate the breadth and quality of academic achievement. Accordingly, all scientist profiles were individually and manually verified. Each researcher’s record was cross-referenced with publications listed in established, reliable sources, further enhancing data veracity.
While the number of prominent journal and conference publications is not directly factored into final ranking positions, it is acknowledged as an important secondary signal of scholarly contribution and relevance within the field. The ultimate ranking is established using each scientist’s H-index, reflecting data meticulously gathered from OpenAlex and CrossRef — both of which are widely recognized as authoritative bibliometric databases within academic communities.
