Data Sources and Metrics Behind the Research.com Best Business and Management Universities in Bahrain Ranking (4th Edition)
The 4th edition of the Research.com Best Business and Management Universities in Bahrain Ranking is underpinned by a rigorously scientific approach, utilizing a variety of robust bibliometric data sources. Primarily, OpenAlex and CrossRef serve as the core databases for gathering structured citation and publication data. Multiple other data sources are also leveraged to ensure comprehensive coverage and increased accuracy. For this edition, bibliometric data integral to the citation-based metrics were collected on 2024-11-27, ensuring the currency and relevance of the analysis.
The foundation for each institution’s position in the ranking is the cumulative D-index (Discipline H-index) of all distinguished scholars affiliated with that university, whose main research activities and publications are in the field of Business and Management. The D-index is notable in that it exclusively includes data for publications and citations pertaining to the specific discipline under evaluation, so as to deliver a focused and fair comparison.
Scope of Research
The current ranking is the result of an extensive process of evaluation and analysis, involving a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a broad spectrum of bibliometric datasets. Within this overall pool, a specialized analysis was conducted targeting 9,829 scientists whose work primarily falls under the subject area of Business and Management.
To qualify, individual researchers needed to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 30 and demonstrate that the majority of their leading publications are in Business and Management. Furthermore, additional distinctions such as awards and achievements in the discipline were also taken into account. The D-index threshold was set to increment by 10, scaled according to the overall number of scholars estimated within each scientific discipline, thereby ensuring that the top 1% of leading experts are consistently included in the final list. A proximity measure of 30% or less is maintained between a scientist’s general H-index and their verified D-index, ensuring research focus. Again, the recognition of awards and field-specific accomplishments contributes further to the qualitative aspect of the ranking process.
Verification Practices and Data Quality Assurance
Recognizing the complexities and nuances in evaluating academic output, the Research.com team employed stringent additional verification protocols. All scientist profiles were manually verified and their data cross-validated against publications found in a wide array of trustworthy sources. While the number of papers published in highly regarded journals and conference proceedings does not directly affect a researcher's position in this ranking, it does serve as a valuable secondary indicator of scientific contribution and research impact.
Institutional ranking positions derive from each affiliated researcher’s H-index as captured on OpenAlex and CrossRef, the two most respected and widely-used bibliometric databases. This meticulous and transparent approach to data collection and analysis underscores our commitment to delivering reliable, objective, and up-to-date information.
