Data Sources and Bibliometric Methodology
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Korea Ranking is established upon a rigorous analysis of leading bibliometric data sources, with primary reliance on OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other reputable repositories. Bibliometric data employed to devise citation-based metrics for this ranking were comprehensively collected on 2024-11-27, ensuring maximum relevance and data currency.
A university’s position within the ranking is determined by the aggregate D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all affiliated scholars who qualify for the ranking. The D-index is calculated exclusively from publication and citation data relevant to a specific discipline. Nonetheless, scientists representing all major research domains were systematically assessed, thus ensuring a fair and inclusive evaluation across the entire scientific spectrum.
Scope of Research Covered in the Ranking
The ranking’s foundation is a comprehensive examination of 279,971 scientist profiles identified through various bibliometric channels, covering all major scientific disciplines. To ensure inclusion in the analysis, each evaluated scientist was required to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 20. In addition to bibliometric indicators, consideration was given to researchers’ awards and notable achievements in their respective fields, further corroborating their scientific impact and standing.
Verification and Validation Practices
The Research.com team recognizes the limitations of relying solely on raw bibliometric data for evaluating scholarly output. Accordingly, the review process incorporated thorough manual verification of all scientist profiles, and cross-correlation against publications listed in diverse, trustworthy sources.
Although not a direct factor in establishing a scientist's position within the Research.com ranking, the volume of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings has been flagged as a relevant secondary indicator of research contribution within a given field.
The ultimate ranking positions draw upon each researcher's H-index, as provided by OpenAlex and CrossRef — the most established and widely recognized bibliometric databases accessible to today’s research community.
