A scientist’s position in this ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that considers only the papers and citation metrics pertinent to the specific discipline under examination. This allows the ranking to accurately reflect a researcher's impact within the field of Psychology, eliminating noise from unrelated disciplines.
Scope and Inclusion Criteria
The ranking was developed by examining a total of 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated from diverse bibliometric sources encompassing all academic disciplines. Within this dataset, 4 scientists specializing in Psychology were carefully evaluated.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 30. Additionally, a majority of their tier publications had to be focused on Psychology, ensuring that their core academic contributions lie within the discipline. Awards and notable achievements in the field of Psychology were also taken into consideration as supplementary factors when assessing eligibility.
Determining the threshold D-index involved a calibrated approach: the baseline D-index value was incremented in steps of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, while guaranteeing the inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts. Furthermore, to assure disciplinary focus, the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index was verified to be 30% or less.
Verification Practices and Methodology
The team behind this ranking recognizes that raw bibliometric data should never be used as an absolute measure of scholarly output. Accordingly, every scientist profile underwent manual verification and was cross-correlated with publications indexed in a broad array of trustworthy academic sources. This meticulous process fosters confidence in both the accuracy and integrity of the ranking.
Although not used directly in establishing a scientist's rank, the volume of papers published in high-impact journals and reputable conference proceedings is considered a meaningful secondary indicator of a researcher’s contribution to the discipline.
The final ranking positions are established based on each researcher’s D-index derived from the integrated data of OpenAlex and CrossRef, representing the global gold standard for bibliometric analysis available to the research community.
