Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Psychology Scientists in Chile Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data collected from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other reputable data sources. These platforms represent the most prominent and widely recognized databases within the global research community for citation and publication metrics. The bibliometric data, which underpin the citation-based metrics used in generating the ranking, were systematically collected on January 12, 2026.
A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric which considers only the publications and citation counts relevant to the examined discipline — in this case, Psychology. This ensures that the ranking accurately reflects disciplinary expertise and impact, rather than generalized academic output.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
The ranking evaluates a total of 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from a diverse array of bibliometric databases covering all academic disciplines. Specifically, for the field of Psychology in Chile, 5 scientists were identified and assessed against stringent criteria. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, scientists were required to have a D-index of at least 30, with a majority of their higher-tier publications concentrated within the discipline of Psychology.
In addition to bibliometric thresholds, consideration was given to scientists’ awards and notable achievements within the field, ensuring an appraisal that extends beyond purely numerical indicators. The D-index eligibility threshold is dynamically calibrated in increments of 10 according to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, all the while guaranteeing that the top 1% of leading experts are incorporated into the list. Furthermore, there is an expectation of a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index, safeguarding against significant discrepancies between overall and discipline-specific impact.
Verification and Methodology Rigor
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output and influence, the research team conducted a thorough manual verification of all scientist profiles included in the ranking. Each profile was cross-checked against publications from an extensive range of trustworthy sources to validate the accuracy and relevance of the data.
While not a direct factor influencing ranking positions, the quantity of papers published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings was also reviewed as a secondary signal indicative of a scientist’s research contributions to Psychology. Ultimately, the ranking positions are established using the D-index derived from information gathered through OpenAlex and CrossRef, ensuring a robust and well-substantiated evaluation framework.
