All bibliometric data used to calculate the citation-based metrics were collected on January 12, 2026. The ranking methodology centers on the D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that considers only the papers and citations related specifically to the examined discipline—in this case, Medicine. This approach ensures that a scientist’s ranking reflects their expertise and impact within their particular field rather than across a broad research spectrum.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking examined a total of 188,153 scientist profiles identified across all disciplines through a variety of bibliometric data sources. Within the Medicine discipline specifically, profiles of 3 leading scientists were scrutinized in detail.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to meet a minimum threshold of 70, with the majority of their tier publications classified within the area of Medicine. Additionally, recognized awards and achievements in the medical field were considered as supplementary evidence of excellence.
The D-index thresholds are dynamically set in increments of 10, calibrated according to the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline. This design guarantees that the top 1% of leading experts are represented in the list. For reliability, a proximity criterion ensures that the difference between a scientist’s overall H-index and their Medicine-specific D-index does not exceed 30%, confirming their focused contribution to the discipline.
Verification Practices and Ranking Methodology
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the Research.com team has implemented rigorous manual verification practices. Every scientist profile within the ranking was cross-checked against publications listed in a broad range of trustworthy sources to ensure accuracy and authenticity.
Although the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the ranking position, it remains a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to their specific research area.
The final position of each researcher is established on the basis of the D-index derived from data obtained through OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and widely respected bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
