The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Engineering and Technology Scientists in Sri Lanka Ranking is built upon comprehensive data primarily collected from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other trusted bibliometric data sources. The bibliometric data used to devise citation-based metrics were carefully gathered on January 12, 2026, ensuring the most up-to-date and accurate representation of scholarly output at the time of analysis. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that considers only the publications and citation data pertinent to the specific discipline under examination—Engineering and Technology in this instance—thereby enabling a focused evaluation of disciplinary impact and productivity.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
In developing the ranking, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles collected from diverse bibliometric repositories across all disciplines were examined. Specifically for Engineering and Technology, 1,874 scientists’ profiles were analyzed in detail. To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, a scientist must have achieved a minimum D-index of 30, with the majority of their tier publications concentrated in the Engineering and Technology domain. Furthermore, a scientist’s awards and notable achievements in the field were carefully considered as supplementary indicators of scholarly excellence.
The D-index threshold for recognizing top researchers is dynamically set in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline. This approach is designed to inclusively capture approximately the top 1% of leading experts while maintaining rigorous standards. Additionally, there is an established proximity criterion whereby the gap between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index should not exceed 30%, ensuring that the researcher’s disciplinary focus aligns closely with their overall scientific impact.
Verification and Validation Practices
Understanding that raw bibliometric data alone are insufficient to fully appraise scholarly contribution, the team behind this ranking conducted meticulous manual verification of all scientist profiles. Each profile was cross-referenced against publications listed in an extensive array of reputable and authoritative sources to confirm accuracy and authenticity. Although the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary signal reflecting a scientist’s research contribution and prominence within their specialty.
