The 12th edition of the Research.com Best Computer Science Scientists in Iraq Ranking has been developed using comprehensive bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data repositories. The citation-based metrics that underpin this ranking were meticulously collected on 2026-01-12 to ensure up-to-date and robust data coverage. A key metric driving the ranking is the D-index (Discipline H-index), which is a refined bibliometric indicator considering only the papers and citation metrics relevant to the specific discipline under examination—here, Computer Science. This approach ensures that a scientist’s position accurately reflects their scholarly impact within their specialized field rather than overall citation counts that span multiple disciplines.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
Our evaluation encompassed a broad scope, starting with 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a variety of bibliometric data sources across all scientific disciplines. Specifically, 9 researchers focused on Computer Science within Iraq were examined. To qualify for inclusion in this specialized ranking, each scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 30. Furthermore, a majority of their tier publications needed to be attributed to the Computer Science domain to establish clear disciplinary relevance.
In addition to bibliometric thresholds, a scientist’s awards and notable achievements within the Computer Science field were also considered as complementary qualitative factors in the assessment process. The D-index threshold applied for considering top researchers is dynamically set in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of active scholars in each discipline, all the while assuring that the top 1% of leading experts are comprehensively included. To safeguard discipline-specific accuracy, only candidates whose D-index deviated by 30% or less from their general H-index were included, emphasizing a strong alignment with their disciplinary impact.
Verification and Validation Practices
Understanding the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data, the Research.com team adopts rigorous additional verification practices to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the ranking. Each scientist profile was manually verified and cross-referenced against an extensive range of trustworthy publication sources to confirm the validity of their listed contributions.
While not directly influencing the ranking position, the volume of papers published in prestigious journals and leading conference proceedings was regarded as an important secondary signal, reflecting the broader scholarly contributions of scientists in their specific research areas.
The final ranking positions are determined exclusively via each researcher’s D-index, based on information harvested from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most authoritative and widely recognized bibliometric databases available to the research community today.
