A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), which is a refined metric that considers only papers and citation data specific to the examined discipline — in this case, Chemistry. The D-index thus ensures a focused and discipline-specific evaluation of research impact.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
The ranking scrutinized a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a comprehensive range of bibliometric data repositories, encompassing all scientific disciplines. Among these, 349 scientists specializing in Chemistry were examined in detail.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist's D-index in Chemistry was required to be a minimum of 40. Additionally, a majority of the researcher’s tier publications had to pertain directly to Chemistry, ensuring relevance and specialization within the discipline. Recognition of awards and notable achievements within the field of Chemistry was also considered as a supplementary factor in the evaluation process.
The D-index threshold for identifying top researchers varies incrementally by 10 points, calibrated according to the total estimated number of scholars within each discipline, while rigorously ensuring that the top 1% of leading scholars are incorporated in the list. Furthermore, the methodology mandates that there is a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist's overall H-index and their D-index in Chemistry, ensuring consistency and focus in assessing disciplinary impact.
