Data Sources and Ranking Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Biology and Biochemistry Scientists in Malaysia Ranking has been compiled using comprehensive bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, along with multiple other reputable data repositories. The bibliometric data underpinning the citation-based metrics employed in the ranking was collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized metric that accounts exclusively for papers and citation metrics within the examined discipline, thereby providing a refined and focused measure of scholarly impact within Biology and Biochemistry.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking is based on rigorous analysis of 188,046 scientist profiles identified from a variety of bibliometric databases across all disciplines. Within this extensive pool, eight scientists specializing specifically in Biology and Biochemistry were evaluated. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index was required to be at least 40, with a majority of their tier publications concentrated in the field of Biology and Biochemistry. Additionally, significant awards and achievements within the discipline were considered to further validate their standing.
The D-index threshold for considering top researchers is calibrated as increments of 10 based on the total estimated number of scholars in each discipline, which ensures that the top 1% of leading scholars are included in the list. Furthermore, to ensure specialization, the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index must not exceed 30%, reflecting close alignment of their broader research impact with their specific disciplinary expertise.
Verification and Validation Practices
Understanding the limitations of raw bibliometric data as a sole evaluative tool, the team behind this ranking adopted meticulous manual verification and cross-correlation procedures. Each scientist’s profile was carefully validated against a broad spectrum of trustworthy sources and publication records. While the ranking order is strictly based on the D-index derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef data—recognized as the most prominent and widely utilized bibliometric systems available to the research community—the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings was also reviewed as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s contribution within their scientific domain.
