Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Animal Science and Veterinary Scientists in Chile Ranking was developed using a comprehensive dataset primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable bibliometric databases. These platforms provide extensive, high-quality bibliometric information that forms the foundation for our analysis. The bibliometric data utilized to generate the citation-based metrics were collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring a contemporary and robust evaluation framework.
A scientist's position in this ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized metric that considers only publications and citation counts within the specific discipline of Animal Science and Veterinary. This targeted approach allows for a nuanced and discipline-focused assessment of scholarly impact.
Scope and Criteria of the Ranking
In establishing this ranking, we examined 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated from various bibliometric sources spanning all scientific disciplines. Within the specialized field of Animal Science and Veterinary, 4 scientists based in Chile were identified and evaluated. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a researcher had to meet rigorous criteria, including maintaining a minimum D-index of 20. Furthermore, a substantial majority of the researcher's tier publications had to be concentrated in Animal Science and Veterinary.
In addition to bibliometric indicators, scientists’ awards and professional achievements in the relevant field were considered to provide a holistic view of their contributions. The threshold D-index values used to identify top researchers were set in increments of 10, reflecting the estimated number of scholars active within each discipline, while ensuring that the ranking includes the top 1% of leading experts. An important consistency criterion was a proximity threshold whereby the difference between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index did not exceed 30%, maintaining alignment between general and discipline-specific research impact.
Additional Verification Practices
At Research.com, we recognize that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the multifaceted nature of scholarly output. Consequently, all included scientist profiles were subjected to manual verification processes. These processes involved cross-referencing each researcher’s publications against a wide range of authoritative sources to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Although not directly contributing to the ranking position, the quantity of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings is considered a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s research contributions within Animal Science and Veterinary.
The final ranking positions are based on D-index values carefully calculated from data retrieved from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most prominent and widely respected bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
